Hello!
Some time ago, I’ve upload a my „My little Binky-Pony“ on Deviant. [link]
Wayward-Mortal asked me, if I could submit this to the „Discworld Guild“ page. I’m not sure if I right here. But when, I like to say, please feel free to use this picture. I'll be very glad, if more people can see it and like it. :aww:
I’m sorry, it’s hard for me to explain in english ^^; …hope you understand me.
best regards Viridian

The bad news: Terry has Alzheimer. That really is terrible. :(

I like all his books but I prefer the old ones and I don't like Vimes very much. For me Rincewind is the best Discworld character. And why did he stop to mention the 8th colour :(

yeah. Theyre probably the best ones. Kinda in-between the searousness and the sillyness.

(first: sorry for not replying for so long)

to be honest, so will I. I started on his books when I was 14 and Im turning 19 next week. Itll just seem somethings missing when he stops writing them. But It half feels that way to me now because of the lack of silly in the newer books.

Perhaps you should include only a preview or snippet of an original literature piece, and link to the complete deviation in the artist's profile. Otherwise watchers will just read the entire piece in the club submission.

I don't really prefer old to new, I like certain aspects of both "eras", but I do, as said before, like the Vimes books best, Weatherwax books being a close second. I do not have to put the books down nearly as often while I take care of a laughing fit, true, but I still love his writing style and I like that there is a dramatic element to them as well. It is why I have always said he is a better writer than Douglas Adams, who never really dared to venture into anything too serious. Still, even if his newest works are not his best, I will still cry when the day comes that no new Discworld books are being produced whatsoever. :(
*Chill-morte:iconChill-morte: Oct 7, 2007, 6:06:28 AM
To be honest I really do prefer the older books and on a forum Im on (gaia) theres been an argument over which ones are better, the older or the newer.
I still vote for the older ones because the humour is unique in them. I enjoyed them a lot more than I do the newer ones. I feel like I want to give up on the books because they lack the original Discworldness but Id feel too left out when people talk about it.
I was on the train yesterday for work and was reading The Colour Of Magic and the guy who came to collect my ticket read Pratchett and he agreed with me that hes trying too hard to make the books serous and it should go back to the way it was. Light, funny and a complete piss up. He used to take the piss out of clichés like in Witches Abroad, with the fairytale endings.

I just find myself dragging though the newer books where as the older books I could read in a matter of days without wanting to put them down.

(yay!)

I am reading Thud! now and I am really enjoying it. But I just adore Vimes and the Watch and I never grow tired of the books involving them. Besides, as a person who works in the field of intercultural relations I appreciate the Night Watch books more than his other characters. His observations on inter-racial and intercultural relations are actually right on the nose, so I find them particularly amusing and entertaining for that reason. The Fifth Elephant is probably my all time favorite. I really find it interesting how far he took the idea of dwarfish culture, and I like how he plays with the idea of troll vs. dwarf and (so far) I like how he brings this to a head in Thud!.
His later books are definitely more serious than his early ones (this I actually like though), and a lot of the humor does get recycled, but hey- we are talking over 30 books here. That he kept things relatively fresh as long as he has is a well impressive feat for any writer. Having said that I really did not enjoy Eric or the Last Continent at all, and I didn't hate Monstrous Regiment, but it did not live up to the hype at all I thought. I feel a little let down that Death has not featured strongly in many of the latest books. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more Johnny books. Even though they start off kind of weak, each is an improvement on the last.

Yes that is Gene Starwind- I painted him. I need to do Aisha, shes way more interesting anyway.
*Chill-morte:iconChill-morte: Oct 4, 2007, 1:26:44 PM
his Discworld books started lacking since Monstrous Regiment, but that one was alright. Its Going Postal and Thud! that I actually despise. Ive said that if Making Moneys as bad as those two Im just gonna give up on them and stick to the older books of the Disc.

Im re-reading Colour of Magic and Ive noticed that in the newer books he never mentions the 8th colour, makes thins up like Inner-Sewer-Ants or anything. The books have become boring.

(Is that Gene Starwind in your avi?)

Which one did you think was bad? The last one I read that I didn't like was the Last Continent. I'm just not a Rincewind fan.

hopefuly not as bad as the last one
